How To Use Flowers On a Masculine Card

Masculine cards can be daunting sometimes, as I am so drawn to girl products that involve flowers, all things glittery, and shiny.  It's Lisa here today with you, and I'm going to show you step by step how you can take floral images and use them on a card for the boys...

My card is featuring the Flower Power Stamp Set, and I decided to start by heat embossing my sentiment with white embossing powder on white cardstock.  Using a long piece of 3M Sticky Tape I created a mask diagonally across the panel.

I then went over the upper half of the panel with Green Distress Oxide Ink.

Next I covered up the top half with the same masking tape and went over the bottom half with blue Distress Oxide Ink.  Sometimes I think it is the colors of a card that really hit us as being masculine or feminine, or at least that's how it is for me.  So I felt that these darker colors really took away from the flowers in the sentiment and brought the focus more on the words themselves...

I then used water and a paintbrush to remove some of the color within each letter and to add a few splatter marks as this ink reacts to water.

For a more "grungy" look I added a few flicks of a blue Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen.  While this ink is  sparkly the darker color made it less distracting and more complimentary.

Once the panel was dry I added a fun graphic piece of patterned paper to my cardbase and adhered my panel.  I love to add embellishments to my cards as well, but when I'm working on a masculine card I try to find more metal embellishments like the staples in the corner, and I finished it off with a few random torn pieces of washi tape.

Here is one last look at the finished panel up close...

Thanks so much for stop by today!  I hope that I've given you a few tips or ideas on how you can take some of your favorite "feminine" images and use them on your guy cards as well!  And since you've made it this far I have a discount code to share with all of you...

Happy Crafting!
Lisa
